Cheever and O'Connor

All:

A post that contrasts the difference in the styles between these two stories will be a good start for your blog post. Develop stucture differences (that show you've read and understood their intentions, etc.) and then contrast the ways they've "told the story." I'll let you interpret that for yourself.

The second half of the assignment is to comment on the blog sites of at least two of your classmates. Click the commentary button at the botton of their post and give your thoughts on their ideas. It would be better to give substantial commentary rather than "Nice" or "I agree." This just doesn't start a "discussion" very well. Be critical (in a polite way) or add to their ideas, develop a thread that they may have let loose. Give it your best.

Discussion of Treatment of Women in _Their Eyes Were Watching God_

So we're back from our break from the blog, and we are looking at Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. I want you to discuss (with text support) some of the ways women are treated in the text, and what Hurston's trying to say about the treatment of women. Try to make your responses around 400 words or so. Due on Monday, April 2nd.

Stevens and Moore...

One thing that Stevens and Moore share is a love of the lyric line. Compare one poem from each author in regards to the sound elements that exist. Where are the intersections? Where are the divergencies? How is sound used in each? Look at them line by line to come up with a coherent answer.

Modernists

Over the weekend, as you begin to read The Waste Land, consider how this work is different than most of the rest of the Modernists you've read so far, and how Eliot embraces the modernist movement. Be detailed in your answer.

Native American Oratory...

All:

As we finish up the discussion on Native American Oratory, I'd like you to blog for a little bit your impressions of Zitkala Sa's (Gertrude Simmons Bonnin) narrative. What do you see as the overall message in this portion of text? Develop your answer through careful text selection to back up your answer.

Washington and Du Bois

As you read Washington and Du Bois, please consider how they are "in conversation" with one another. Specifically Du Bois is answering Washington's "Atlanta Exposition Address." So how do their respective opinions differ? Develop your answer and finish by Tuesday evening at 8pm.
